What Is Mad Beauty Mentorship?

Mad Beauty Mentorship is a professional, hands-on salon mentorship experience for cosmetology students seeking real-world exposure beyond the classroom. This program is not an academic course, internship class, or graded experience. There are no exams, rubrics, or performance scores.

The mentorship emphasizes learning through observation, guided practice, and professional immersion while remaining fully compliant with Ohio State Board of Cosmetology regulations.

Who This Mentorship Is For?

Mad Beauty Mentorship is designed for students who have completed at least 50% of their required cosmetology licensure hours and are actively enrolled and in good standing with their cosmetology school. It is ideal for those who want to build confidence in a real salon environment, understand professional salon flow, strengthen client interaction skills, and receive guidance without academic pressure. Participants under 18 years of age must have written permission from a parent or guardian.

What Mentees Will Experience?

Participants will observe licensed professionals in an active salon setting and practice skills within their current scope of training under direct supervision. The mentorship provides exposure to salon sanitation standards, safety practices, professionalism, and client care. Mentees receive informal, growth-focused feedback intended to support confidence, skill development, and readiness for the industry. In some cases, mentees may be asked to demonstrate skills on mannequins or models before servicing clients.

Professional Standards & Expectations

Mentees are expected to maintain professionalism, ethical conduct, and respectful communication at all times. All Ohio State Board sanitation and safety requirements must be followed. Participants must adhere to the hosting salon’s dress code or approved attire, accurately track mentorship hours, and remain open to learning and feedback. A State Board–approved student name badge and valid photo identification must be worn and carried during all mentorship hours.

Time Commitment & Structure

Up to ten percent of a student’s total program hours may be completed through mentorship. Mentees may participate between three and ten hours per day. A thirty-minute break is required for any mentorship shift exceeding six hours. Time may be split between school and salon as long as daily hour limits are observed. This is an unpaid mentorship experience, though tips may be accepted at the discretion of the hosting salon.

Important Notes All school policies remain in effect during mentorship participation. Discrimination of any kind is not tolerated. Participation may be ended at any time to maintain compliance, safety, or professional integrity. This mentorship does not affect grades, GPA, or academic standing.
